2/6/2009Beaches are shore thing as they take top awards
Aberdour's beaches have always been something that that the town can be rightly proud of - and there's even more reason to celebrate them this week, with the great news that the Silver and Black Sands beaches have both received top honours in the Keep Scotland Beautiful Seaside Awards.
Aberdour's Silver Sands has again won a Blue Flag award, and also won the resort award - marking 16 years as a Seaside Award winner. Only seven beaches in Scotland - five of them in Fife - hold the prestigious Blue Flag.
The Black Sands has also been recognised, receiving the Rural Award.
The Seaside Award programme recognises Scotland's beaches for litter management, information provision, risk assessment and safety procedures, and water quality, while the Blue Flag is acknowledged in 40 countries worldwide.
Beaches like Silver Sands achieving the Blue Flag accolade must ensure all facilities are clean and environmental management and information provision standards are excellent.
