Comedy legend Arnold Brown headlines at 2010 Festival
I make no apologies for requesting your attendance at the fantastic comedy event which will be taking place this Sunday night at the Marquee.
It's been some time since the Aberdour Festival had a comedy night. Well, at least an intentional comedy night :-) I remember Mitch Benn at the Woodside some time ago and he was superb.
This time we've got someone very, very special. Arnold Brown is a Jewish Glasgow guy, probably in his 60s now. He came to prominence around the time of the "alternative comedy" scene of the early 80s.
But, just as musical artists who flowered at the time of punk who weren't really punk, Arnold was never really alternative comedy.
While he was an alternative to the likes of Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning, Arnold has never been trendy or PC or anything really you could put a label on.
He is just a funny, funny man.
He tells stories.
Many of these are about the mad world of Scotland we all know; it's curiosities and absurdities. He tickles you with his delivery. Comedy is all about timing and Arnold knows when to say the killer line better than anyone else out there.
Who is the best Scottish comedian ever?
Billy Connolly? Chic Murray? Stanley Baxter? Ricky Fulton?
Arnold Brown is in that class.
And he is playing in Aberdour.
Honest, you need to be there.
